Save the Date Etiquette: Everything You Need To Know

Save the Date Cards are announcements that inform your guests of your future wedding in order to keep your special day free. They are essential in the following situations: if many of your guests are traveling to your wedding, your wedding takes place on or around a holiday, you are planning a faraway destination wedding, or your wedding will take place in a seasonally busy or tourist locale, where the flights and hotels perhaps book up early.

Wedding Ceremony Music Planning

3/5/2008 2:28:13 PM ~ Posted By Lei Lydle

The music for your wedding ceremony is one of the most important elements in creating the perfect mood…

You’re Not Planning to Wear Just “Any Old Gown,” so Don’t Neglect the Ceremony Music!

3/5/2008 1:25:16 PM ~ Posted By Going to the Chapel Wedding Musicians

I marvel at how selecting live music for one's ceremony often takes a back seat to choosing flowers, gowns and other physical elements. After years of watching brides during the planning stages, I've concluded they don't really mean to undervalue music, but often feel intimidated. Don’t worry—I won’t go into a discourse on the Importance of Music here. Let me just say that well-chosen, well-played music keeps your guests entertained and moves everyone into place at the right time. It gets you in and out with an air of elegance and dignity. Even though it may seem fleeting and ephemeral, music is as concrete a presence at your ceremony as the candles and boutonnieres. When you play back your video for years to come, guess what's in the background? A soundtrack! Make it as much a priority as planning the other details.

Ladies, Will You Follow Tradition and Propose on Leap Year Day?

Today is Leap Year Day, February 29, and this is one day, historically, that it has been acceptable, even "legal" in some countries, for women to pop the question.  Of course, it is completely acceptable in this century for women to propose any day of the year but some women will follow this Irish tradition and pop the question today.

When, where and how did this tradition begin?  It is believed that this tradition began in 5th century Ireland.  Apparently women were tired of having to wait so long for men to propose and so, since February 29th was a day that was not legally recognized and only existed to correct a problem with the 365 day calendar year, it was decided that this day could be used to fixed this proposal problem as well.

In 1288, Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in the leap year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine which could range from a kiss to payment for a silk gown.

Now don't get today confused with Sadie Hawkins Day, which is another day when women are traditionally "allowed" to ask men out.  I even read an article stating that Leap Year Day and Sadie Hawkins are the same day.  They are NOT the same day. Sadie Hawkins is in November and it is a completely different tradition.

So ladies, anyone planning to pop the question today? Or if you are reading this article after February 29, did you pop the question on Leap Year Day?

Library Themed Weddings

2/11/2008 10:30:04 AM ~ Posted By Lei Lydle

While this type of theme may only appeal to a handful of you out there - it is perfect for librarians and avid readers or library lovers!  I think it would be a challenge to find a library to host a wedding but I thought these two couples had the right idea...

Scott & Diana have posted images of their library-themed invitation, rules for the reception - which are quite clever considering they seem like library rules - as well as their RSVP card.  Although they were unable to have their wedding in an actual library, the library theme was fitting because the both work in libraries.  Great job Scott & Diana - way to get creative!

Raina & Mike actually held their wedding in a library in Clayville, New York.  They were able to spend less than $600 on their entire event - which is completely unheard of for weddings in New York.  You can read about their wedding here.
